Who We Are

The Pratigya Campaign was launched in January 2013, when a group of committed advocates came together to develop a strategy to disentangle sex-selection from safe abortion, ensuring that action on one did not undermine access to the other. As India’s abortion landscape evolved, Pratigya evolved alongside it, responding to emerging challenges and access gaps.

The coalition was formed to address persistent barriers to safe, legal abortion and to protect the reproductive rights of all abortion seekers. Despite a progressive legal framework, stigma, misinformation, uneven service availability, and policy implementation hurdles continue to restrict real access.

Pratigya works to close these gaps by convening diverse stakeholders, strengthening cross-sector collaboration, and driving collective advocacy. It focuses on shifting narratives, influencing law and policy, improving systems of care, and expanding access to accurate information, so reproductive choice is realised in practice, not just guaranteed in principle.

Building Access Together

Pratigya’s work is made possible through the support of donors, development partners, and collaborators, and through sustained partnerships with healthcare providers, public health experts, abortion advocates, legal professionals, and community organisations across India.
